Today

We have, on channel 19, a news at 5 6 & 10, which we watch. Greg Screws is one of the Anchors, he does a segment, called Deal or Dud. A viewer can e-mail him about a product seen on tv, weather it works as claimed. So I sent him one on Jupitar Jack, a device you plug into your cellphone (comes with adaptors) tune your radio to certain channel, then while driving down the road, and get a call, you can push to answer, and hear the caller through your speakers, and talk hands free. So today, Greg Screws came by, and we tried with my phone, and car, it didn't work. Greg tried his cell and his car, it worked. When asked my opinion, I said Deal, for Safetys sake. One just needs to read the instructions that comes with it, and it will all work well.

Hardware problems

Oh well, guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. My Monitor quit, maybe the on/off switch went bad, oh, I don't know. So for now I am connected to my TV trying to get used to such a BIG Screen! my keyboard wire is stretched across the room, I do however have a wireless mouse, so I can kick back on the couch. Next is sound test.
more later,maybe

Memorial to the Slain at Fort Hood Texas

May God rest their souls, and forgive them of their sins. As a Christian, we are told we must forgive the man responsible for the loss of many soliders. This will be hard to do. It brings back all the sadness and horror of all who lost their lives on 9/11, and past wars. I think we need to continue to fight against all terrorists here and abroad.
May God help the families of all who have given their lives for what we believe.
May God Bless and Keep you All.

Today's happenings

So now the grass cutting has come to an end, life is never boring. Today Harley went to the Vet with a swollen spot below his eye. It was determined to be an absessed tooth, which would be difficult to pull. so now he's on almost as much medication as me :-) poor boy! He's about 13 years old. The vet visit went well, he did'nt give them any trouble. The trouble began when I tried to get him back in the car to go home. Harley is a BIG Dog weighing at least 120lbs. He got stuck behind the drivers seat making it impossible for me to get behind the wheel. but with help and Growling from Harley, we got him to the back. I had to back up to the ditch in the front yard to off load him.

Favorite Season

Well the garden is done, just keeping the grass cut for the dogs. Now is the time to do something in the house (yuck), I'd rather be outside. Put youtube on and listen to tunes while I clean,or something. Soon will be the time to get computers in order. Hook up returned comp. from Tyler, then try to fix my HP. It still has files I need. Be careful what you download as updates.

Fall, my Favorite Season

I'm learning as I grow, I read, and tried, 1/8 tsp baking soda, tsp. dish washing liquid added to a gal. water, for powdery mildew on my veg's, but the next thing I noticed was all the leaves dying out.
We have had sooo much rain, even our 1 watermelon split in half, and it wasn't even ready to pick! I know the loss of one watermelon doesn't compare to the Farmers plight of too much rain. Oh well will try again next year. I am going to try a method I recently read about, using bales of hay. Its worth a try, cause whats left in the end is mulch!

Grans Ramblings :-)

Do ya ever get up to go do something, and think, what did I come in here for. Well depending on the room you find yourself in might help remind you. Of course if you find yourself in the Restroom, there may be something else reminding you why you came in there. We all just have such busy lives, like most women we feel we need to get it all done TODAY! I find myself leaving myself notes. Today I made a list of my meds, which is not a bad idea, but it helps. When speaking to a lady at the supermarket, she said even her 3 yr. old stops and asks herself, why did I come in here? Could this be a wake up call for us all, us overachievers, over doers, busy busy housewives. Are we influencing our children,By getting them involved in to many school activities or afterschool doings? Just a thought for today.

Grans Doings

well were coming up on the finale days of our garden. Got a LOT! of Yellow Cucumbers. The regular cucumber plant is still producing, but their odd shaped. crowder peas are still going, and the Sunflowers are getting ready for harvest. Can't wait till its potato picking time. The purple onions didn't make it, the squash plants covered them up.

Garden

Uh O! I think my squash/cuke, are getting moldy. They have white/gray like spots on some.
Guess I'll quit watering in the afternoon. Even the cukes on the fence are getting the spots. I figure, the humid conditions, and watering to late in the afternoon must be causing it.
I water most everyday, but in the bare spots, and any anthills I see, as well as what the dogs leave. The Grass is looking Good, and filling in.

Sun Flowers

Well, I wondered how well Sun Flowers, considering their size, would hold up in heavy winds. I found out this morning when I let the Dogs out, that one of the BIG One's was laying down on the ground, snapped off dirt level. Now I must find out what to do to be able to harvest the seeds. I guess I could put it out front and let the birds pick it clean.

After the Storms

Well, the baby bird in photo, under the momma bird, didn't make it through the Heavy Winds. So the next day I only found the basket/nest, but no baby bird. Guess it wasn't meant to be.
The Garden is still growing. Were thinking about picking the Tomatoes while still Green. We have found a worm, so to keep them from getting into the others we will pick em.

After the Storms

We had some Heavy rains, lots and lots of Lightning. One branch of our big tree was taken out. When I went out to survey the damage, I found a survivor of the storms damage. Pix to follow. Guess I will leave the branch on the ground, and hope the momma and baby survive.

Well its been pointed out, that it has been awhile since I posted, my excuse, well i've been busy.
The Garden has begun to give vegis. Takin care of Grandkids Dog, while they bask in the sunshine in Hawaii. Sure miss them.
With 6 Dogs and 5 cats, its like a daycare. They take up a lot of time, what with feeding, watering, and supervised visits to the backyard.
Now I must clean up car, for its visit to the dealer, it blew its AC, and what with Summer and 90+ degree I must have AC!!!!

Searching for Family

I just found a Blog for Kaysville, UT. I believe the second settler in the area in mid 1800's was our Ancestor, Samuel Oliver Holmes. Searching for Ancestors seems like being a detective. Searching out the clues, when you don't have much to go by. I go so far, then I hit a brick wall! but oh well, I just keep looking.

Another cloudy day

Well the day has started with letting out the Dogs! Harley is a bit agressive with Jazz, but were hoping things will settle down, we have Jazz until June 16th. We do this for family, while they bask in the Sunshine in Hawaii!

Yard Work

Well the county finally got here to pick up all the tree debris in the neighborhood, guess they have their hands full.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Rosemary Gone Wild

This is three separate Rosemary plants, we planted them on the south side of the house, and as you can see they spread! For many years, I tried and tried to grow Rosemary, from plants my Dad sent, and my sisters sent, even from seed. One day we bought 3 plants from the local nursery and there you have it. We harvest, and use it in our grill, and on burgers. The use of Rosemary comes from our Father, he used in BBQ. It also means rememberance, so for Mom & Dad hope you see them, and smell their fragrance as we grill each summer.

Cloudy Day

Well I thought the county was going to finally pick my tree debris, but they drove by and picked up one computer monitor my neighbor set out. (shame, shame on him) Electronics should be recycled! not put in our landfill. Well maybe he just didn't have room for two trees, he just drove by again without stopping.

Break From Rain

Finally, we got a break from the rain, maybe a day or two. Replaced the kitchen faucet yesterday, what a pain, I hate pluming. I finally got the idea to complete my hose extension that brings water closer to my garden. A washing machine hose, was just what I needed. While we were out to purchase the kitchen faucet, I found Lemon Cucumber seeds!! last year I ordered them from a garden supply, and they cost me $10, most of that was for shipping, this year finding for $1.25 was Great! So now I will plant them as well as my squash. Gutters need cleaning out now, got to come up with idea to do it from the ground instead of a ladder.

Stormy Day

I sure hope all this rain doesn't wash away my garden! One big storm just passed through. but still a threat to family south of us. Son-in-law and Grandson are Trout fishing north of us, where the storms came from, hope they missed them. More to come tonight, and chances all week.

Sad News

When My Mother died in 1990, I flew to Calif. with the financial help of her Brother and Sister-in-law. My Aunt bought a cat cage, had Mom's Cat checked out at the Vet, and brought her to me at the Funeral in Oakland. I bought her a plane ticket and flew her home with me. Yesterday, Kate found her dead. We Buried her in the yard, putting a small garden fence around her grave, covered the mound with potting soil, and covered it with seeds. Kate circled it with rocks, and put bigger rocks, one at the foot, and one at the head. We then placed Rosemary at each end. I planted Gladiolas at her head. Kate put a few small fake flowers she saved from her Sisters grave, till Shadow's Flowers come up. I thought that was a true tribute of Love on Kate's part. We still have 5 Cats, but losing even one of a Loving Trusting Animal Companion isn't easy.

Sunshine!

Well, what we all needed is finally here, Sun and warm days. Hope to see more Green in my Garden other than tree seed sprouts. I cut down two cottonwood trees, its been a constant battle. I was unable to cut a major branch due to a Robin nesting, I'm keeping an eye on the nest in hopes that when she/they leave I can cut down the rest of the tree. Got to get the shade away from my Garden. We have other trees that I have planted, which number more that the two cut down. Have a Great Day World!

GardenTime

Well were finally getting weather to warm the ground, just planted some sunflower seeds, some for me and most for the birds! Spread some poison to help get rid of fleas, ticks, and ANTS!! of course its out front, that's my only poop free zone. Dogs go out back. no poison out there, don't want to make them sick. Yesterday was way to windy gusting up to 30, but blowing hard all day!

Got My Belts!

Finally got my belts for my Bissell, first one on burnt and split! second one worked, even put a new bag in. Starting to see green in my sq.ft. gardens. Up way to early today. its just now 6:00am, got lots to do today.

Work is Never Done

I finally got my yard cleaned up of all tree debris, now I can start in the house. I finally got my belts and bags for my vacuum, so now maybe I'll vacuum, or not ;-) Maybe I will just watch my garden grow, until it rains.

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Vaccum!

I have looked and looked around town for vacuum belts for my Bissell, which I bought at Wal-Mart. To my surprise they never have them, I even have trouble finding the bags. I came to the decision to order direct, and guess what? Today the bags were delivered via FedEx, but no belts, they were on back order :-( The belts are the most needed! cant vacuum without belts. Bags can be reused if you have the patients to pick out all the dirt in the old one, (it will get you by) But without belts the beater bar wont rotate. Oh well, guess I won't vac. today.

GransGarden

Well its growing, along with the pain and stiffness, but according to Mel Sq.Ft. gardening I shouldn't have to go through this next year, just add a little compost and replant. In my old bed, I planted a few potatoes, but the dirt it wet and compacted, guess I just add cuttings and compost to it. Start over building my compost pile.

More GransDoings

Yesterday was not uneventful, or boring. cut up more tree debris, built sq.ft. garden boxes, Worked on the Family Tree, made a discovery of another tree, with some of my family. Waiting for a response from them as to how we connect. Did phone catchup with family members. Today we are expecting severe weather outbreak, not sure as to the hour of arrival, but had a noisy night from storms. Guess I'll stay indoors today.

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Tree cuttings

I have one more good day, without rain, to cut up more of the trees we cut down. Cut some, then haul to the road, then cut some more, will continue until all are gone, then begin my garden spot.

Indexing

Just got done doing some indexing for the San Francisco Genealogy site (Mips) the info provided by Halstead's Mortuary. Once the indexing if done, it is posted on the internet and it provides free info for Genealogist's searching their ancestors. Next I checked in with Ancestry.com for any new updates on my ancestors.
This is not only interesting, but Fun, finding info on my Family. It almost feels like being a PI :-)
Some can be frustrating, when you spend hours searching, and find nothing. :-( But as time goes by more info gets out there.
I have discovered what seems to be a very old cemetary, one lady has been there 127 years. In searching her name, I have only been able to find her in an old census at the age of 19. But I will keep on searching.

Lots of Sun today, going to cut down a couple of trees that are in the way of my Garden site.
Found coarse Vermiculite, at $25 a 3cuft sack. got to go get it and mix it in with my other stuff.
we are going to get two days where the temps will be down to the low 20's brrrrrrr! Glad I havent planted yet. maybe I'll put together my boxes.

Goofing off today, to wet to go outside. Watching Big. Had BIG Storms last night, flooded our Yard.
Too bad we adults can't recapture our youthful adventure.

GransDoings

Gonna give this blog a try. It is April 2, 2009, and we are expecting STORMS!!! today. Later I will be picking up Grandaughters after school, and hope we beat the storms.
I am going to try the SquareFoot Gardening method, and see what results I get. I come from a long line of Farmers/Gardeners, and hope some rubbed off on me.
I have made up my mix, next I will build my frame, which is 4x4x6, and set my site. My mix is close to Mel's Mix found on http://www.squarefootgardening.com/ I know this method works, my father had great sucess with his.
